We have designed and installed 100+ outdoor weddings across Ontario, from golf course terraces in Vaughan to a museum courtyard in North York. This guide is what we have learned about ten of them: what they cost, how many people they really hold, and what happens when it rains.
A note on the prices below. Venues quote a per-person food and beverage rate, then add a room or site fee, then a minimum spend that rises on Saturdays between May and October. The number a couple actually pays is usually % above the headline rate once tax, gratuity and the rain plan are in. We have given the ranges we see on real 2026 invoices, not the rack rates. Confirm current pricing with the venue — these move every year.
What an outdoor wedding adds to your budget, beyond the venue:
Typical GTA range, 2026 and When you need it
Tent for 150 guests (30×60) : $1,875 frame – $2,900 clear-top for any outdoor reception without built cover
Flooring or subfloor: $1.50–$5.00 per sq ft, so $2,700–$9,000 under that tent
Wherever the ground is not level. The biggest surprise on most quotes
Sidewalls: $1.25–$4.00 per linear foot, $225–$720 for a 30×60
Wind, rain, or an evening that turns cold
Patio heaters: $50–$100 each per day with propane; roughly one per 8–10 guests
May, September and October evenings, almost always
Tent heaters: $175–$500 each plus fuel
Shoulder-season tented receptions
Outdoor ceremony chairs: $1.65–$5.00 per chair delivered
When the venue's chairs are indoor stock only
Bistro and string lighting: $2.00 per linear foot installed; $1,600–$6,200 for freestanding pole installs
Every outdoor reception past 8pm
Washroom trailer: $1,600–$2,000 per day
Estate and rural sites without facilities
Tent permit: $214.79 per certified tent in Toronto; $125 in Mississauga
Any tent over 645 sq ft — every tent above about 100 guests
Budget roughly $7,700 to $19,000 above the venue for 150 guests, before a generator or tent cooling, which nobody in the GTA publishes rates for.
Two things almost nobody writes down. A tent with enclosed sidewalls requires a professional engineer's field review under the Ontario Building Code, whatever its size. And Caledon requires ballast weights rather than ground stakes, which raises what the tent company charges to deliver and set.
Almost nobody has an entirely outdoor wedding in Ontario
What most couples want is vows under the sky and dinner somewhere the wind cannot take the centrepieces. So the real question is not which venues are outdoor. It is which ones move you between outside and inside without the day feeling broken in half.
Hotel X
High Park Terrace with a retractable roof, Marina Terrace, Victory Ballroom 500, Princes' Gates 300, New Fort Hall 200
The most flexible here. The roof closes over your heads, so one space is both — no relocation, no shuffling guests
Royal Ambassador
Two gazebos, 55 acres of lakeside grounds
Greenhouse, glass and climate-controlled year-round, 320 seated; Embassy ballroom 500
Ceremony outside, dinner in a glass room that still feels like the garden
Casa Loma
Terrace, five acres of gardens
Glass Pavilion 220, Library 200, Conservatory 80
The Glass Pavilion is enclosed glass, not open air — which is exactly why it works in April and October
Liberty Grand
The Courtyard, 400 for a ceremony
Four ballrooms, 300 to 800 seated
Courtyard and ballrooms adjoin, so the rain plan is a walk through a door
Arlington Estate
Pergola ceremony garden up to 400, heated outdoor areas, pond terrace
West Wing 200–475, East Wing 80–165
Indoor backup comes with the outdoor ceremony package rather than as a second booking
Aga Khan Museum
Courtyard, Diwan Terrace, Diwan Patio, a 21,438 sq ft park
Atrium: 200 seated, full buyout 350+
The most outdoor space of anywhere on this list. A tented park wedding here is spectacular
Embassy Grand
Walled garden with a gazebo, up to 270
Grand Hall 1,640, five Embassy rooms
Outdoor ceremony, indoor everything else. Built for large guest counts
The pattern worth noticing: only two venues here let you seat dinner outdoors at any real scale — Hotel X's High Park Terrace at 96 and Liberty Grand's Courtyard at 200. Everywhere else, outside is for the ceremony and cocktails. Plan for that from the start and the day flows. Discover it in month eight and you are redesigning.
And the glass-room option, which almost nobody searching for an outdoor venue knows to ask about. The Royal Ambassador's Greenhouse, Casa Loma's Glass Pavilion and Hotel X's terrace with the roof closed all give you sky and daylight with no weather risk. For an April, October or winter date, that is the answer.
The venues
1. Hotel X Toronto — Exhibition Place
Outdoor: High Park Terrace, 6,966 sq ft on the fourth floor, with a retractable roof — 300 for a reception, 96 seated. Marina Terrace, 3,477 sq ft, fully open air, 200 reception.
Indoors: Victory Ballroom 500 seated, Princes' Gates Ballroom 300, New Fort Hall 200.
Cost: No published rates. Expect from about $260 per person including house bar, with a Saturday minimum in the $30,000–$35,000 range and a ceremony fee of $4,000–$6,000. Confirm directly.
Season: [ MONTHS ]
Rain plan: The best on this list. The roof closes over the terrace, and Victory Ballroom and The View are indoors behind you.
The glass flooring over the archaeological exhibit in New Fort Hall is genuinely unlike anything else in the city, and access for load-in is easy. Two things to plan around before you fall in love with a design: the fire restrictions, and the elevators — everything we install has to fit inside them, which sets a real ceiling on the scale of any structure. Watch your guest count against the room you have chosen; these are big spaces and a list that half-fills one will feel it.
Catering is in-house, run with The Food Dudes. Both terraces face the lakeshore, so ask about the amplified-sound curfew before you book a band.
