Globe and Mail Centre Wedding Cost 2027: Fees & Capacity
How much does a Globe and Mail Centre wedding cost?
Budget from $20,000 for the venue side of a Globe and Mail Centre wedding, before décor. That is the starting figure on the venue's EventSource listing, updated in September 2026. WeddingWire breaks the rental out: an $11,000 reception site fee off-peak, $14,000 in peak season, and $1,500 for a ceremony.
Catering is separate, comes from an outside caterer, and carries a venue surcharge most couples only find in the contract. More on that below.
Our honest verdict, after two Sangeets and an industry night on the 17th floor: this is one of Toronto's best rooms for a pre-wedding event or a cocktail-style reception. For a seated dinner with dancing, it gets tight sooner than the capacity chart suggests.
Globe and Mail Centre pricing at a glance
The venue publishes no current rate card, so these figures come from its public listings and its last published events package. Treat the 2017 lines as a floor, not a quote.
The landmark fee is the line to model early. On a $30,000 food and staffing bill it adds $4,500 with a preferred caterer and $6,000 with one off the list. Florals, valet and entertainment were exempt in the 2017 package.
Capacity and rooms
The venue holds 400 standing, 300 seated, and 250 seated with a dance floor. A rental gives you the whole 17th floor at 351 King Street East: Event Hall, Lounge, Terrace in season, and a green room.
Sizes and capacities are from the venue's Cvent and EventSource listings.
The number that matters is the shape, not the square footage. Cvent lists the Event Hall at roughly 107 by 35 feet, which makes it a long, narrow room. Add a dance floor, a stage and two bars, and the space left for dinner rounds shrinks fast.
That is why both weddings we have designed here were Sangeets: 225 guests for Rob & Priya and 250 for Jasmine & Anuj. A Sangeet wants lounges, movement and a big dance floor, and this floor plan gives you all three across the Hall and Lounge. For a seated dinner with dancing, we plan for 225. The room can reach 250, but that is the limit, not the comfortable number.
What's included and what isn't
The rental covers the room and basic furniture. Almost everything guests touch is a separate line.
One detail for anyone picturing round tables: the included tables are six-foot rectangles. Rounds are a rental. So are any chairs other than the house black leather.
Four restrictions worth knowing before you sign
1. Only the venue's AV technicians can reach the ceiling. The venue's 2017 events package says technicians from EPiQ Vision are the only people allowed to use a lift to access the ceiling rigging points. The venue's partner page still names EPiQVision as its AV supplier, décor rigging included. The rigging plot we work from shows seven lines crossing the width of the Event Hall. A suspended piece is designed to those lines, hung on the technicians' schedule and quoted as their labour, so design the ceiling first. Not everything overhead needs the ceiling, though: at Jasmine & Anuj's Sangeet the fringe lamps hung from our own J-shaped stands.
2. Your caterer choice changes the bill. Catering comes from outside, and the landmark fee is lower with a preferred caterer. The current preferred list includes Oliver & Bonacini, Food Dudes, Toben Food by Design, Alo Catering, L-eat, and TWO13 Kosher Food Design. Kosher and halal menus are both available.
3. Everything arrives by one elevator, on the venue's clock. At our industry night, every vendor shared a single elevator across two days of install, and timing was the hardest part of the job. An extra install day costs extra. How early you can get in depends on what else is booked that day and on the venue's approval. Tear-down is set for 1 am, though we have found the venue flexible when a strike needs longer. Build your install schedule around the elevator, not the room.
4. Bringing your own AV team costs extra. The events package lists a $1,000 + HST fee for an outside AV company, plus a venue technician billed hourly.
The venue publishes no décor policy, so these are the house rules as we have worked under them. Open-flame candles are allowed. Nothing can be fixed to the walls, windows, columns or floor, so every piece either stands on its own or hangs from a rigging line. Petals, fruit and other loose details are fine as long as your team clears them afterwards.
What we've designed at the Globe and Mail Centre
We have designed three events on this floor, and each one treated the long room as a series of zones instead of one big hall.
Rob & Priya's four-colour Sangeet. For 225 guests, we split the floor into blue, green, berry and pink zones, each with its own florals, candles, furniture and vases. Fresh dragonfruit, blackberries and grapes were worked into the arrangements. A custom ceiling treatment framed the dance floor, and a bespoke bar became a feature of its own.
Jasmine & Anuj's tropical glam Sangeet. Gold-gilded palm leaves, magenta and deep blue foliage, and a velvet magenta lounge sat under emerald fringe lamps hung from our own J-shaped stands. The layout for 250 guests was cocktail-style, with high tables and a custom geometric dance floor.
A 2025 industry night. We led the full event design: a large feature structure rigged above a grand piano at the centre of the hall, lounge zones built for conversation, and an entrance moment that set the tone immediately. See the industry night.
The pattern is the same across all three. The room is a neutral shell with a skyline behind it, so colour and height do the work. Lounges and zones suit its proportions better than a grid of dinner tables. The ceiling is where the design is won, which is why the rigging rule above deserves an early conversation.
Questions to ask the venue before you sign
We design the room, so some numbers sit outside our scope. Ask the venue for these in writing:
• What is the site fee for my date, and is there a food and beverage minimum?
• What is the current landmark fee, and does it cover rentals and bar as well as food and staffing?
• What will the AV team charge to hang décor from the rigging lines: hourly rate and minimum call?
• What is the fee for bringing an outside AV company?
• What does an extra install day cost, and how early can vendors load in on my date?
• When does the Terrace open for the season, and is there a curfew outside?
